Black Architecture have been engaged by Hertfordshire County Council to provide built heritage advice and prepare a Listed Building Consent application for refurbishment works at Central Primary School in Watford.
A condition survey indicated that the historic plaster and lath fabric of the vaulted ceiling was failing, with water ingress around original timber windows within the roof a contributing factor. To assist the client and enable works to be undertaken in the school summer holiday a team was mobilised to record the damage, and dialogue commenced with the conservation team within the Council to agree the strategy for the Listed Buildings Consent application.
Collaboration with planning officers has resulted in a positive outcome, with the works to the historic fabric being recorded to form part of a LBC application whilst the wider maintenance programme progresses to weatherproof the building.
