Budgetary constraints required the initial proposals for a new café at King George Recreation Ground in Bushey to be reconsidered, with a mix of alternative locations and construction methodologies being tested to gain financial approval.
A detailed assessment of the existing café building, which is subject to severe structural damage from tree roots, has identified that a new, rather than retrofitted solution should be adopted. To minimise construction impact on the park, modularised options have been tested in locations that can be readily accessed by cranes without the need to expend resources constructing temporary access roads. Funds can then be focussed on delivering a comparable size café building.
The new LETI environmental performance standard building will feature a bio-solar roof and low impact timber cladding that complements the decking that will surround café. A contrasting neon sign above the parapet greets customers.
