Being friends with Phoenix Community Housing gets you invitations to diverse events. Tonight it was the official opening of the Fellowship Inn by the new Mayor of Lewisham.
Seven years after demolishing the Green Man pub to provide the site for the community hub and headquarters building designed by Black Architecture, Phoenix have this time refurbished another local pub to serve the community of Bellingham. The restoration of the Fellowship through Heritage Lottery Funding provides new community performance spaces, a cinema and a home to Lewisham Music. The pub itself has a new lease of life through the partnership with Electric Star.
As with the Green Man hub building the Fellowship is focussed on the needs of the community, having originally been built to serve returning service personnel after the first world war who would live on the ‘Homes for Hero’s’ estate in Bellingham. The Green Man continues to evolve with new ideas coming forwards five years after it was opened by the former Mayor.
