The final project of 2024 presents an opportunity for Black Architecture to convert part of a Georgian property back into residential use and deliver a new micro home in the heart of one of London’s historic literary districts.
The Grade II listed building has undergone many changes throughout its life. Most original architectural features have been lost internally, although window shutters set into reveals remain, along with original structural timbers. The proposal insert contrasting joinery into the space, floating bathrooms and kitchens above the floor and below the ceilings to preserve the integrity of the listed fabric that remains. Low impact thermal improvements line the external walls.
The plan form adapts throughout the day for living, working, entertaining and sleeping, maximising the use of the space. Further research into the history of the building will be undertaken in 2025 ahead of an anticipated planning application.
