A cold start to the year focusses attention on the homeless community and in particular those in need of emergency accommodation. Black Architecture are offering support through design proposals for a hostel in Cambridge.
Jimmy’s provides safe spaces for both men and women, but has a communal area which reflects the social distancing imposed by Covid and in contrast cramped staff facilities. Reorganisation of the former listed chapel in a phased plan will create new efficient facilities for the support team and flexible space for residents with both quiet and activity areas. A challenging entry lobby arrangement will be remodelled to balance security requirements with a need for openness.
The charity is celebrating 30 years of service in 2025, with the refurbishment works to be completed as part of this milestone. In collaboration with CRASH and their patrons, work is already underway to design and deliver the refurbished space.
