The construction of 32 social rent homes for Dacorum Borough Council is progressing on site in Grovehill, Hemel Hempstead, with the superstructure of all buildings nearing completion.
The project is designed to respond to the prevailing Radburn development pattern, addressing the historic shortcomings of this street pattern through the introduction of a shared surface Woonerf at the centre of the scheme. The pedestrian priority street is activated by three storey apartment blocks, whilst houses are dual aspect with both front and rear garden entrances. A wider masterplan for the area will extend the development with front doors addressing the new public realm.
The project is targeting a 75% CO2 reduction through a fabric first approach that is supplemented with MVHR and ASHP systems. A 10% Biodiversity Net Gain is also achieved through a mix of on and off-site landscape improvements.
