Final proposals have now been prepared ahead of a planning submission being made to St Albans City and District Council for the new Community Hub and sports changing rooms at the William Bird Open Space in New Greens.
The scheme has evolved from that discussed at the stakeholder event in June to address a call for enhanced accessible facilities and to accommodate a wider range of sporting activities. Updated plans, developed by Black, place community facilities at the forefront of the scheme, with the existing social club and sports functions accessed through the communal front door. Flexible multi-use spaces throughout are designed to address both current and future community needs.
The Hub adopts a civic architectural language, contrasting with the suburban surroundings, but incorporates a mix of flint, local soft red brickwork and timber detailing to connect the building back with the City.
