Work has now finished on the construction of the new electric MotoX track at the West Hyde Youth Centre in Maples Cross, providing specialist facilities to allow participants to learn how to ride a Motocross motorcycle.
Black Architecture were commissioned by Hertfordshire County Council to coordinate the design proposals and secure planning permission from the County Planning Authority, bringing together the consultants RGP and Ascerta to provide drainage and ecology support. Consent was granted September 2025, with construction work starting in early 2026. Wildflower planting to the banks of the jump bunds completed the project, addressing biodiversity gain across the site.
Research has shown that there are limited examples of MotoX tracks securing planning consents across the country. The example at West Hyde offers the potential for electric motorbikes to overcome objections being raised.
