Hertfordshire County Council have granted planning permission for a pair of temporary classrooms at Hunsdon JMI school, with work to install the buildings programmed for completion over the summer holiday.
The consent enables children from the neighbouring village school in Widford to be temporarily relocated whilst urgent reconstruction work is undertaken to remove RAAC concrete from their existing building. Separate listed building and planning applications for these main works are with HCC and East Herts District Council for determination, with approvals anticipated to be delivered in late August to enable work to be completed over the 2025-2026 academic year.
Planning approval is limited to two years to enable the site to be returned to its previous condition. Teaching will restart at Widford in September 2026 as part of a new federation programme between the two schools.
