Pre-application proposals have been prepared to remodel an HMO for the Kairos Community Trust to support their Home to Recovery work for people with drug and alcohol addiction problems, a service they have been providing since 1991.
The design opens up the ground floor of the building and extends into the garden to provide separate kitchen, utility, dining and lounge spaces for the seven residents, offering a mix of quiet and communal areas. Roof extensions and a reconfigured first floor ensure each resident gets a double bed sized room with storage space and access to three high quality bathrooms with a common layout to introduce maximum efficiency into the design.
Planning policy requires HMOs to be convertible back to family homes. At Gabriel Street this is achieved by changing the existing ground floor bedrooms into family rooms, resulting in a 5 bed house typical of the Honour Oak Park neighbourhood.
