Last night’s community consultation event to discuss proposals for the new Community Hub at the William Bird Open Space in New Greens, St Albans, attracted a wide range of stakeholders from across the community.
The new building brings together existing facilities in the local area, that are in need of renewal, into a single centre on the site of the derelict sports changing rooms at the recreation ground. New fully accessible changing facilities and a flexible community space are delivered at ground level, with a social club and community hall on the first floor. The spaces are supported with kitchens, toilets and storage, allowing a range of social activities to take place in the building at any given time.
Feedback from the event has been incorporated into the proposals, rationalising the circulation whist at the same time enhancing accessibility throughout the building. The scheme is now being progressed towards an autumn planning submission.
