The newly completed front entrance at Morley provides the perfect setting for the inaugural winner of the fifth plinth sculpture prize.
Black joined the competition judging team and were unanimous in selecting Molly’s contemporary interpretation of Holst’s The Planets Suite to occupy the fifth plinth. The hard landscaped courtyard offers a new place for staff and students to gather before entering the college. Stone seats set into the stepped ramps create places to sit and enjoy the new art work. A new mature silver birch is planted at the heart of the space, replacing the previous tree.
Phase 1 of the masterplan continues with a contractor now selected to deliver the art gallery across the road in Southwark.
