Following the granting of planning permissions for PV installations on buildings in England, Black Architecture have been commissioned to submit proposals for buildings across Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The process has identified that whilst PV installations are being promoted through the adoption of permitted development rights, each Country within the United Kingdom has subtly different interpretations of the planning rules. Careful reading of the primary legislation is required to interpret the requirements. Common constraints exist in terms of the heights of the arrays that are permissible, although separation distances to the perimeters of building vary, as do the questions in the online application forms.
By the end of the year planning consents will have been secured in all four Countries with over 3,300 PV panels due to be installed that will be generating in excess of 1,400kW of fossil fuel free clean energy.
