East Herts District Council have granted Listed Building Consent for works to be undertaken on a Grade II listed building, allowing removal of RAAC concrete from the adjoining classrooms to be initiated.
The approval is closely linked with an enabling planning consent for temporary classrooms at Hunsdon JMI School, allowing decanted children from Widford to start the September term at a neighbouring village school without interruption to their education. As part of the works, thermal upgrades will be delivered through a high performance roofing system and new double glazed timber windows installed within the historic section of the school affected by the remediation programme.
Construction work at Widford School will commence in the autumn of 2025 and will be completed ahead of the 2026-2027 academic year to allow ensure the new year group start their education in safe and refurbished classrooms.
